6 quick steps to transform your school shoes!
Add a pop of color to your closet this summer with this easy-peasy DIY. It’s the perfect opportunity to try out some extremely simple dip-dye/ombre techniques on your old canvas shoes.

Here’s How To Do It!

Step 1: Take your white canvas shoes and remove the laces. Line the edges with cello tape or cover them with petroleum jelly. This is done so that the white details on the shoes remain undamaged.

Step 2: Fill a pot or bucket with enough water to completely submerge your shoes. For the first dip you want to keep the color light.

Step 3: Add more food coloring to the water and dip only 2/3rd of your shoe. Start your dip towards the heel of the shoe (so that each dip brings you closer to the toe). Bob it up and down in the water so no hard lines appear. Keep the shoes submerged for about 3 minutes.

Step 4: Add some more food coloring to the water and dip 1/3rd from your shoes another 3 minutes to get the darkest color of your ombre.

Step 5: When you’re done, let the shoes sit in the wet dye for 3-4 hours before rinsing out the dye until the water runs clear.

Step 6: You can remove the petroleum jelly with an old toothbrush and rub baking soda on the rubber edges.

You now have some pretty awesome shoes! Personalize these shoes by using your own unique color combination with more than one dye or by adding rivets and studs for a little embellishment. This DIY is sure to bring some spring to your step!
