Assassin’s Creed Altair Facts You May Not Know
The one character that all the fans started the franchise with, called Assassin’s Creed, Altair, who was he anyway? Was he an important figure in his day? Who were his relatives, if any? This blog is about some interesting facts about the Master Assassin Altair Ibn-La’ Ahad that few fans know. Altair Ibn-La’Ahad was an important member of the Order of the Assassins and was the son of Umar Ibn-La’Ahad, an Arab Muslim Assassin, and Maud, a Christian mother. He trained in the Assassin’s way from childhood.
He grew up in Assassin’s Order and was in his twenties when he became a deadly and prominent member of the Brotherhood. This eventually made Altair an arrogant man, leading him to make a big mistake when the Assassin Order headquarters was revealed to their deadly enemies, the Templar Order. Because of this mistake, Altair’s rank was stripped from him and his mentor Al-Mualim ordered him to kill eight people as redemption. After killing the individuals, Altair discovered that his mentor was just using him to get a piece of Eden called Apple of Eden where he killed his mentor for his betrayal of the Order. He then went ahead and continued the Assassin’s Order as its Grand Master.
The interesting facts about Altaïr from Assassin’s Creed:
He married an ex-templar
One of Altair’s most interesting yet strange facts is that he married Maria Thorpe, a member of the English Templar Order. He met her when he was on a mission to eliminate the eight Templars. She came as a decoy from the Grand Master of the Templar Order, Robert de Sable, where she successfully deceived him.
After Sable’s death, Maria learned the true nature of Templars and sided with Assassin’s Order, where she grew closer to Altair and later married him. They both had children named Sef and Darim.
He warded off the Mongol Empire
During the expansion of the Mongol Empire, Altair, Maria and their son Darim traveled to the Western Xia Empire to stop Genghis Khan. He was sure that Genghis Khan’s progress was due to the help of a Piece-of-Eden, and he thought it necessary to remove this threat.
After they got there, the group found the Mongols’ camp. Because of his age, he couldn’t do much, but Darim and Qulan Gal killed Genghis Khan and thus completed their mission.
He went into self-exile
When Altair, Maria, and Darim returned to Maysaf after their mission to stop the Mongols, they found Maysaf was not the way he had left. The next day, Altair and Maria learned that Abbas had staged a coup and executed their son, Sef.
When Swami, the right-hand man of Abbas, told Altair how he had executed his son, Altair became furious and used the Apple of Eden. During the skirmish, Mary received a fatal blow from Swami intended for Altair, who killed her. He fled with his son to Alamut, where he remained in self-exile.
He restructured the Assassin Order
Several years later, Altair returned to Maysaf to reclaim the title of Grand Master, along with halting the deteriorating state of Assassin’s Order. He killed Abbas with a concealed weapon. In his final moments, Abbas still refused to believe what Altair said about his father, saying he would find it in the afterlife.
After these events, he restructured the Order and spread it around the world. He believed that it is better to spread the Order of the Assassins than in one place. This is evident in all games that follow Assassin’s Creed.
He died alone and peacefully
After taking the Order back from Abbas, Altair began to create a huge library under Maysaf Castle, storing thousands of books of knowledge Altair had learned from the Apple of Eden. He created five keys that can open the library. The keys were also his memories.
After the Mongols besieged Maysaf, he evacuated everyone from there. He gave the codex and the five keys to Niccolo and Maffeo to hide them from the wrong hands. Darim concluded that the library was a safe that both Apple and his father would seal. He entered the library after saying goodbye to his son. There he recorded his last moments in the sixth seal and died peacefully.
