The Hewlett Packard Enterprise Houston Open kicked off Thursday at the Memorial Park Golf Course with a beautiful field featuring prominent involvement from the course’s design consultant – who also happens to be a four-time major championship winner.
Brooks Koepka headlines the group of stars playing at Memorial Park this weekend, and he will be joined by Ryder Cup teammates Tony Finau and Scottie Scheffler, as well as Tyrrell Hatton, Sam Burns, Matthew Wolff, Cam Smith and Patrick Reed.
Depending on the weather, the course will also play a major role. While the 7,000-square-foot green complexes are quite large, the way they’re designed (with multiple levels) and the way they’re set up (hopefully fast and sturdy!) creates a myriad of problems and sets the better players in the field. able to rise to the top of the leaderboard by the end of the week in Houston.
This is probably the last best shot at quality golf against what could be a difficult course until 2022. With Koepka trying to bounce back from a missed cut last weekend and most of the rest of the field looking for a win No. 1 of the still young season, this should be a good tournament. And if the wind blows a little and the track plays as solidly as last year, it could go from good to great and will probably be one of the better viewing experiences on the entire fall slate.
