‘La Brea’ Recap Season 1 Episode 9 – Race to Take Isaiah Back to 1988
This week on NBC’s La Brea…not much actually happened prior to next Tuesday’s season finale (at least not compared to the previous episode). That said, we now know what to do in the finale of the already revamped drama, lest Josh and Izzy go the way of Marty McFly’s siblings.
IN THE COUNTRY BELOW BELOW….
While Silas went into hiding with Isaiah after she stabbed Rebecca, Eve got the full download from Aldridge – that Isaiah is in fact young Gavin. If the rugrat is not found and led to the portal that will soon open atop a mountain in Topanga, leading to 1988, Josh and Izzy will become very sick and die. (Paara later filled in a few other blanks, saying Isaiah and Silas joined their village “a few years ago” claiming to have come through a sinkhole and the child’s parents did not survive the fall.) While Eve and Levi braved a rocky stretch on foot, Josh takes the jeep to the other side and at one point uses it to mow down a saber-toothed tiger who was about to pounce on Isaiah, whose grandpa was going to do a blueberry run. Josh breaks the jeep in the process, but he and Dad meet Eve and Levi shortly after and continue the 10-mile trek to Topanga on foot. Eve decides at one point that Isaiah needs to know that they plan to throw him into a portal, but the boy isn’t thrilled with the idea.
When they reach a deep ravine, Isaiah points out a convenient, nearby rope bridge, but just as he and Eva make it across, Silas and a couple of spear-wielding henchmen appear. Levi takes out a knife and cuts the bridge free, leaving Eve and her little man safe. Silas & Co. then take Levi and Josh hostage and demand that Eve meet them at the end of the ravine four miles east for a compromise…or else. Eve and Isaiah soon run into Ty and Paara (who apparently didn’t need a rope bridge!), but the latter two head back to the clearing soon enough to get backup. Eve waits as long as she can, but as night falls, she urges Baby Gavin to get to the top of Topanga Mountain, as they run to save her son.
Meanwhile, the injured Aldridge persuades Riley and Sam to take her to their camp (“All I do is make sure Josh is alive”), where she informs everyone about the upcoming portal to 1988. That sparks some discussion about who is willing to return home now, albeit “30 years off”, and who? not look at that die hard in a theater or subjected to acute LGBTQ persecution. Rebecca then sees Lily, hands her a sheet of paper from a journal she found in Silas’ cabin, and tells her to get the little girl to do something important (more on that later)….
Also, Paara put a big old kiss on Ty after tending to one of his nosebleeds/hearing his prognosis….Scott saw an ordinary (albeit 16th century?) cow, but when everyone else shook off the stoner (is is that an ‘obsolete term’?), Veronica helped him locate and return the animal to the clearing/help their outcast status . Later, Scott discovered a barcode etched behind the cow’s ear!
Meanwhile, TOP….
Ella-the-artist found Gavin and Sophia in her field, but didn’t believe the wild sinkhole story. Gavin sneaked (quite easily) to the super-secure dig site to find a rock that Ella had painted a picture of, to prove his point. Ella handed the stone, remembering that she’d seen Rebecca Aldridge once before—when her name was “Lily,” in 10,000 BC. Rebecca had given her into custody. It featured a rough map of the West Coast and its well-known sinkholes/portals, including one in Seattle that is about to open and run through October 6, 2021….
So, are we to believe that Ella from 10,000 BC. comes…. made it a breeze to meet Veronica and Aaron (as Lily)…then fell back into a sinkhole…and now have to return…to grow up as Ella/get the map to Gavin? 🤯
