Why Final Fantasy 14 Endwalker Is The Best MMO Expansion Ever

While there should be a debate as to whether or not endwalker holds the landing (and we hope to talk more about this game’s story once more people have had a chance to experience it), it’s hard not to be impressed by the fact that endwalker brings a happy ending to Final Fantasy 14the most important story as it has been told so far. It’s a finale that’s as epic as it takes to get the scope of that story so far, but it’s just as much about the emotional investment you’ve made in these characters, this world, and the little moments you’ve had. experienced along the way.

Few developers would ever be bold enough to end a story that many people once said couldn’t possibly be this good, but endwalker‘s finale gives you confidence that this team will somehow find a way to outdo themselves again.

Final Fantasy 14 Endwalker’s Dungeons and Zones feels like good endgame content

By the end of most MMO expansions, you’ll have battled gods, saved the universe, and outfitted Grok’leThur’s sacred sweatband. It’s always been a little odd, therefore, that the beginning of most MMO expansions essentially performs a “reset” that suddenly forces you to thematically fight smaller enemies that you should think pose a serious threat to your godlike player character.

That’s why I respect how endwalker‘s dungeons and zones feel like a good sequel to what came before. Granted, the wildest things are still found towards the end of the expansion (endwalker‘s last zone is simply stunning), but even the earliest content feels like a worthy thematic sequel to what preceded it.

I don’t know how the Final Fantasy 14 team continues to raise the stakes with relatively little diminishing returns, but the way endwalker acknowledging and respecting your past achievements is just incredible.

Final Fantasy 14 Endwalker Doesn’t Overestimate New Content

Even some of the best MMO expansions ever made (like World of Warcraft: Revenge of the Lich King) somewhat bothered by the idea that the most important thing is the extension content. They are designed to keep you grinding for each new piece of gear, only exist in the new zones and, more often than not, spend time leveling up new character classes as they tend to be more powerful than anything else.
