YouTube Music is now available for download on Snapdragon Wear 3100 smartwatches
After its debut at Google I/O ’21, Wear OS 3 was expected to become all the rage as we hoped at least a few new Wear OS 3-powered smartwatches would arrive in time for the holidays. Along with the overhauled design, Google also confirmed its plans to finally bring a proper YouTube Music app to its portable platform, something the streaming service lacked. However, since there appears to be an unannounced exclusivity deal between Samsung and Google, the only smartwatch that can currently run Wear OS 3 is the galaxy watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic.
Shortly after Wear OS 3 became available, it was unknown if even just the YouTube Music app would be available for Wear OS 2 smartwatches. Since then, Google has changed its tone as the company continues to expand its list of compatible wearables. In late September, we saw YouTube Music arriving for Wear OS smartwatches powered by the Snapdragon Wear 4100 and 4100+. Thanks to 9to5Google, it looks like Wear OS 2 smartwatches powered by the Snapdragon Wear 3100 will see YouTube Music available for download.
If you own a smartwatch but aren’t sure what’s under the hood, here’s the list of Snapdragon Wear 3100 powered Wear OS smartwatches.
According to 9to5Google, the YouTube Music app has appeared on the Moto 360 and a reader found it on the TAG Heuer Connected. After the discovery, a message went live on the Wear OS by Google Help page for youtube music:
Update October 12, 2021: The YouTube Music app is now supported on more watches with the latest version of Wear OS 2. Check the Google Play Store to confirm availability for your device.
